Young and Old in People’s Park

One of China's oldest traditions: family. One of its newest phenomena: the middle class. In this snapshot, Chinese both young and old bide their time in a clean, well-kept park (the "People's Park") sprawled in the center of Zibo, a small but crowded city in the Shandong Province. They amble, pushing their strollers, pausing to laugh and talk. Ten years ago, a scene like this would have been an anomaly. Today, it sets the stage for new traditions to come.
